Tooth Extraction

Having a tooth extracted is sometimes the best solution for an infected or badly damaged tooth. If you or a loved one is suffering from pain or discomfort and are looking for professional dental services to help extract an un-restorable tooth, turn to our team at Eltham Dental Clinic today.

Comfortable and Professional

We understand that having a tooth extracted can be an uneasy experience for most patients, so our team works hard to ensure that our patients are comfortable before, during and after the procedure. We make sure to walk you through each step of the process and administer local anaesthetics before the extraction begins to help protect you from any discomfort or pain.

How Are They Extracted?

After having your symptoms assessed an X-ray is taken of the tooth and the surrounding area, the dentist will make sure this is the best option for you, if you have decided to have the tooth extracted the dentist will numb around the tooth with a local anaesthetic. An instrument called an elevator is then used to help loosen the tooth enough that the dental forceps are able to grip and remove the tooth.

As the area is numbed using local anaesthetic, you will only be able to feel pushing and pressure, no sharp pain.

Why do Teeth Need to Be Removed?

There are many reasons to extract a tooth. If a tooth has become decayed and unrestorable, or infected you may decide it is best to have it removed. Other reasons may be there is not enough bone to support the tooth and it becomes loose, or if there is not enough room in the jaw or the tooth is impacted (usually wisdom teeth). Some orthodontists request to have premolars removed to create space before braces.
